District 34 shares the following safety strategies to keep in mind:

  • Children should not engage in online conversations with a stranger and should not meet anyone in person they have "met" over the Internet - they are strangers. Share with your child that people who introduce themselves on the Internet are often not who they say they are.
  • Children should never share their name, school, age, phone number, or address to anyone over the Internet.
  • Children should never send pictures to strangers or view pictures that strangers send to them.
  • Parents should talk openly and honestly with their child about online safety on a regular basis.
  • Parents should maintain access to their child's online accounts and monitor the activity on their child's phone, computer and other devices that connect to the Internet. Share with your child that you are tracking the online activity, phone calls and text messages in order to keep him/her safe.
