Burglar Steals $35,000 in Jewelry

The information in this blotter was reported by Glenview Police on Dec. 9 and 10, 2013. Where arrests are included, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by Glenview Police:

Burglar Steals $35,000 in Jewelry
A resident of the 3600 block of Keenan Lane found the door pried open and $35,000 in jewelry stolen between 5:55 and 9:02 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, according to police.

Glenview Man Charged With Domestic Battery
A 34-year-old Glenview man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 5:37 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, according to police.

Minors Cited for Possession of Alcohol
Edwin Santana, 20, of the 300 block of Bellaire Avenue in Des Plaines, and Julian Ruiz, 20, of the 1300 block of East Walnut Street in Des Plaines, were cited for possession of alcohol as a minor at 10:26 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the 3300 block of Milwaukee Avenue, according to police. 

Resident Hears Burglar in the Home
A resident of the 900 block of Drake Road reported hearing the floor squeaking at 1 p.m. Nov. 15, according to police. They suspected it was their spouse, but when they called out, no one responded. The next day, they discovered an item on a table near the front door was missing. The estimated loss is $50, police said. 

Attempted Burglary On Bette Lane
A resident of the 1100 block of Bette Lane reported that someone tried to force open the rear sliding door of their home between 12 and 6:54 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, according to police. The door lock was broken, but a safety bar prevented anyone from entering. 

Car Burglar Takes Gift Cards
A resident of the 1100 block of Somerset Drive discovered that someone stole gift cards from the center console of their car while it was parked in their driveway at 1 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, according to police. The estimated loss is $30. 

Coworker Slaps Fellow Employee on Greenwood
A complainant reported that their coworker pulled them from their car and slapped them several times in the face while they were parked at their place of employment in the 1500 block of Greenwood Road on Tuesday, Dec. 3, according to police. 

Man Sends Sexually Harassing Texts
An employee of a business in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road reported receiving several harassing text messages from an unknown man, according to police. He said he continually changes his number, but the man has not stopped sending the messages, police said. 

Contractor Sends Harassing Texts
An employee of a business in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road reported receiving harassing text messages from a contractor doing work at the business on Sunday, Dec. 7, according to police.

Thief Steals Backpack, Google Chrome Notebook 
A complainant reported that their son's backpack containing a school-supplied Google Chrome notebook was stolen while at an event at a business in the 2800 block of West Lake Avenue between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, according to police. The estimated loss is $300.

Thief Removes Merchandise From Packaging
An employee of a business in the 1500 block of Waukegan Road reported that a man was removing merchandise from its security packaging on Monday, Dec. 9, according to police. When confronted, the man dropped several of the items, walked out of the store and drove off in a four-door vehicle, police said. 

Rear Window Smashed at Train Station
Someone smashed the rear window of a car parked at the downtown Glenview train station at 1116 Depot St. between 6:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, according to police. The estimated loss is $300. 

Identity Thieves Spend Thousands Online
A resident of the 2600 block of Summit Drive reported that someone used their credit card to purchase more than $3,400 worth of items online, according to police. 

A resident of the 2000 block of Covert Road discovered that someone made a $7,000 charge and attempted another $5,000 in unauthorized charges online, according to police.

Identity Thief Takes Out Student Loan
A resident of the 3800 block of Countryside Lane received a letter from a collection agency demanding payment for a medical bill and interest from a Utah Medical Center as well as a demand for payment of a past due student loan from the Department of Education, according to police. The resident did not obtain a student loan, and received a letter from a community college reporting a security breach, police said. 

Scammer Advertises $950,000 Win--Just Send Money
A resident of the 2700 block of Covert Road reported that a man called to say they had won $950,000 on Monday, Dec. 9. according to police. The caller said they had to get a $199 prepaid card to cover shipping and handling charges for the prize. When the resident called back, the man said they had to get a second card for $395, to cover IRS fees. At that point, the resident got suspicious and called police. The man called again while a police officer was at home, and when confronted, he hung up. 

Harassing Caller Claims Federal Warrant
A resident of the 2500 block of Indian Ridge Drive reported receiving harassing phone calls at home from a man claiming to be from the "Federal Crime Investigation" agency, according to police. The man mentioned a federal warrant and asked the homeowner to contact him, police said.

Graffiti: "Sorry About the Wall Kiki" 
A complainant reported on Dec. 8 that someone had spray painted the wall of a building in the 1300 block of Waukegan Road, writing "Sorry about the wall Kiki" in white paint, according to police. Last week, police found a painting of a shark face, the words "life is good" and "KIKI" on the side wall of a business in the 1700 block of Glenview Road.
