Burglars Break Into Two Homes Under Construction

The information in this blotter was reported by Glenview Police on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. Where arrests are included, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following arrests and incidents were reported by the Glenview Police Department:

Burglars Break Into Two Homes Under Construction
A resident of the 800 block of Becker Road reported that someone broke into the house the night of Tuesday, Oct. 29, and stole tools worth more than $4,000, according to police. The burglar was able to get around a temporary construction fence surrounding the home, police said.

The general contractor for a home in the 1800 block of Wagner Road also reported that someone broke into that house the night of Tuesday, Oct. 29, and stole several tools and 14 faucets worth more than $8,000, according to police. The burglar in that incident also was able to get around a temporary construction fence. 

Repairman Takes $1,500, Doesn't Return
A resident of the 0-100 block of North Branch Road in Northfield reported giving $1,500 to a repairman they had previously used a few times, with the understanding that he would fix the furnace, according to police. The repairman said he would get the parts and come back in a week to finish the repairs, police said. But by Oct. 30, the resident told police that the repairman had not returned and was not answering his phone. 

Thief Cashes Forged Checks Worth $3,000
A resident of the 1600 block of Pickwick Lane reported to police that six checks had been stolen from the middle of their checkbook sometime before Oct. 31, according to police. All of the checks had been cashed, for a total of $3,000 in stolen funds. One of the checks was cashed at a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Blvd., according to police.

Man Drives Up to Construction Workers, Hits Their Knees
A flagger for a construction company doing work at Waukegan Road and Chestnut avenue reported that a man driving a white Mercedes disobeyed crew instructions to stop on Oct. 30, according to police. Instead, the man inched slowly forward until his car was touching the their knees, and yelled at the construction crew to get out of the way. When they stepped to the driver's side of the vehicle, the man drove over the sign pole they were holding and broke it, police said. 

Drunk Customer Yells Obscenities After Electric Scooter Breaks
An employee of the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road reported that a customer became upset when the store's electric scooter died on them while they were shopping Oct. 30, police said. The customer, who had been drinking, yelled obscenities at the employee and held up their middle finger, according to police. The customer was told they could only return to the store if they were sober. 

Thief Leaves With Shopping Cart, $614 in Merchandise
An employee of a business in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road reported that a man had pushed a shopping cart out of the store filled with $614 in unpaid merchandise on Oct 31, according to police. Police described the suspect as a black man aged 40 to 50 years old, standing 6'2" to 6'5" and weighing 200 to 220 pounds. He drove off in a gold colored Buick, according to police.

Man Steals $49 in Gas, Drives Off
An employee of the Shell station, 750 Waukegan Rd., reported that a man pumped $49.23 worth of gas into his car without paying on Oct. 31, then drove away, according to police.

Man Sits In Store, Refuses to Leave
An employee of a business in the 1300 block of Waukegan Road told police that a man sat in the business for three hours on Oct. 31, then refused to leave when asked. The man eventually left the business after police officers called a cab for him, and he was told he could no longer return, police said.
