Glenview's Deputy Police Chief Tapped as New Chief in Grayslake

Phillip Perlini takes over as the new Chief of Police in Grayslake on July 30.

Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor officially appointed him to the position during the Grayslake Village Board meeting on July 3. He was unanimously approved to the position by trustees. The one year contract has a base salary of $132,000.

, where he has served for 28 years. He has more than 32 years law enforcement experience overall.

Perlini began his career in Park Ridge as a telecommunicator, and then became a Hoffman Estates police officer in 1983. He joined the Glenview Police Department as a patrol officer in 1984.

In Glenview, Perlini has been involved in all phases of police operations from patrol to department management. His management duties included assignments as commander of patrol; commander of support services; and commander of investigations. His current position involves management across all department functions and including budgeting and labor negotiations.

Patch contacted Glenview PD multiple times following the earlier this month. Chief William Fitzpatrick has declined to share any further details regarding Perlini's departure, including who might replace the Glenview veteran as deputy chief. 

"Working for Glenview, he is already familiar with our dispatch system because the Grayslake system is handled out of Glenview," said Mayor Rhett Taylor. "Mr. Perlini is a long-time resident of Lake County and familiar with our community. And, he is endorsed by former Grayslake Police Chief Larry Herzog."

Perlini worked for Herzog at his first job as a dispatcher in Park Ridge when he was 18.

"Larry is a great man, and he was a great boss in Park Ridge," Perlini said. "He told me what a great place Grayslake is." 

Perlini said he doesn't have any plans for big changes in the department, but knows what style he wants to see.

"I like police work to be delivered in a personal manner," he said. "This town deserves that."

Perlini currently lives in Round Lake, but plans to move into Grayslake. He is married and has five children.

"We are excited to have Mr. Perlini join us," said Taylor.
