Maintenance Ruse Leads To Stolen Jewelry Worth $1.5K
A man claiming to perform a water inspection created a diversion while a possible accomplice stole jewelry from a Glenview home, according to police.
The following police reports were provided by the Glenview Police Department.
Ruse Burglary
On Jan. 16, a resident in the 4400 block of Ivy Dr. reported a man used a ruse to gain access to their home, according to police.

The man came to their door on Jan. 10 in the afternoon and said he needed to check their home’s water because water at a neighbor’s house was contaminated, according to the police report. The residents first denied entry but he was later allowed in, police say.
The man went to the kitchen and ran the water, occsaionlly the man spoke to another person on a two way radio, according to the police report. After the man left, the homeowner realized someone had disturbed items in resident's bedroom and three gold necklaces worth about $1,500.00 were stolen, police say.

Stolen Iron
On Jan. 17, the manager of a business on the 1900 block of Willow Rd. reported someone stole a piece of iron fencing, several iron chairs and two iron tables from the rear of the business, police say. The incident occurred between Jan. 7 and Jan. 12, and reported loss is about $15,320.00, according to police.
Battery
On Jan. 14, an employee of a business on the 1900 block of Glenview Rd. reported a man came into the business and caused a disturbance by yelling for no apparent reason, police say. When asked to calm down, the man poked the employee in the chest, then left before responding officers arrived, according to police.
Attempted Residential Burglary
On Jan. 15, a resident on the 2700 block of Summit Dr. reported someone tried to enter their home by prying open the front door, police say. Pry marks were seen near the door’s deadbolt and handle, causing about $150.00 worth of damage, according to police.
On Jan. 16, a representative of a condominium building located on the 2600 block of Summit Dr. reported an attempt burglary, police say. It appeared someone tried to gain access to the building by prying open the front door, but entry was not made, though caused about $75.00 worth of damage, according to police.
