There are also two cases of identity theft in this edition of the Glenview police blotter.

The following information is from the Glenview Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Theft

A resident in the 2000 block of Henley St. reported their mail for April 25-26 was stolen from their mailbox while they were out of town. The mail carrier confirmed delivering mail on these two days.

A resident reported April 30 that someone claiming to be with the IRS called and stated the resident was in trouble for falsifying their tax return. The caller requested $2,000 to make the situation right. The resident knew it was a scam and reported the incident to the police.

A complainant located a rental ad for a house in the 1600 block of Central Pkwy. She called the number listed due to a rental price discrepancy and a male answered. He stated the home was empty and attempted to collect a deposit without furnishing a rental agreement. The complainant drove to the home and spoke with the current tenant who stated they are renting the home. The complainant did not give the male claiming to be the owner any personal information and just wanted to report the incident.

Harassment by Telephone

On April 29, a resident reported receiving several harassing phone calls from someone claiming to be from Washington Investigations who said the resident has been lying about their earned income. The resident believes the calls are a scam and wanted to report it.

A resident reported April 30 the tenant of a home they rent has called and harassed them after they sent a five-day eviction notice for failure to pay rent. The resident does not wish to sign a complaint at this time.

A resident reported May 1 receiving several harassing phone calls. A male caller with an accent left a message indicating the matter is extremely sensitive and very urgent.  If they do not hear from the resident or their attorney they can only wish them good luck as the situation unfolds upon them. The messages end with good luck and take care. An internet search of the number showed it has been reported numerous times for being involved in harassing phone calls.

Identity Theft

A resident reported someone attempted to open line of credit accounts at several retail stores. They told each store the accounts were created fraudulently and the stores canceled the accounts. They suffered no financial loss.

A representative of a bank contacted a resident regarding several charges in the amount of $353 in Chicago on May 2. The resident reported they did not make the purchases and someone must have stolen their identity.
