New Deputy Police Chief Named in Glenview

Beginning Aug. 6, Sgt. Stefan Johnson will be promoted to Deputy Chief of Glenview PD. He will replace Phillip Perlini, who left the department July 27th after 28 years in Glenview to take over as the new Chief of Police in Grayslake.

Changes are coming to the Glenview Police Department this month, Village officials shared via e-mail last week.

Effective August 6, Sergeant Stefan Johnson will be promoted to Deputy Chief, the press release explained. 

He will take the place of Phillip Perlini, who left the department July 27th after 28 years in Glenview. a move Patch originally reported last month.

Among Johnson's accomplishments, he was one of four Glenview police department members honored with a Special Committee Award as part of the 2002 Glenview Civic Awards.

The four heroes – Johnson; Perlini, then a sergeant; Commander Charlie Wolavka; and Officer Paul Settecase – rescued two wheelchair-bound residents during a January 2, 2002 apartment complex fire on Lexington Lane, according to officials.

Johnson first joined the Glenview force in January 1989, the press release said, and was promoted to sergeant in January 2001. He served in the detective bureau from 2002 until 2009, and then worked as a patrol shift sergeant.

Other changes effective August 6:

  • Sergeant Jason Saikin will be promoted to Commander. Saikin started with the Glenview Police Department in March 1998. He spent time as a tactical unit officer, and then switched to the detective bureau in 2004. He was promoted to sergeant in January 2009.
  • Detective Michael Mazurkiewicz will be promoted to Sergeant. Mazurkiewicz joined the Glenview force in June 1998. He was appointed to the tactical unit in 2001 and became a detective in 2002.
