Off-Duty Glenview Cop Attacked in Chicago

Officer Daniel Domke was attacked with a baseball Saturday night, but declined medical attention after the incident.

Daniel Domke, a 26-year-old Glenview police officer, was hit with a baseball bat in Lincoln Park Saturday night at 7:16 p.m. after yelling at a driver who almost ran him and a friend over with his car, according to a Chicago police report.

The Glenview Police Department confirmed Daniel Domke is a member of their department, but declined to comment on the incident.

According to the incident report, Domke, who lives in Uptown, was crossing Lakeview Ave. at the intersection with West Fullerton Pkwy. when a black Honda nearly hit Domke and his friend.

Domke yelled at the driver, who then stopped his car, got out with a baseball bat in hand and started walking toward the off-duty cop, police say. Domke identified himself as a police officer, but the attacker, believed to be in his early 20s, swung the bat at the policeman, hitting him on the left elbow and ribs, according to the report.

Domke then grabbed the criminal in an attempt to control him, but the man broke free, jumped in his car and sped off, police say. However, Domke memorized the man’s license plate number and reported it to police in the 19th District, according to the report.
