Officer Cuts Won’t Mean Less Safety for Students, D34 Officials Say

Making the switch from campus police officers to teachers ‘on assignment’ would save Springman and Attea Middle Schools $65,000 per year, a small bite of the board approved plan to cut $1.8 million for the 2012-13 school year.

A proposal to cut officers at has some parents concerned about compromised safety, despite the $65,000 in annual savings the switch would bring the district.

the district is getting creative and says replacing officers with certified teachers will not affect student’s safety while at school, Glenview Announcements reports.

According to officials, the switch would not only cut costs but would also decrease bullying with a planned anti-bullying program organized by the ‘on assignment’ teachers.

School trustees plan to schedule more discussion before making a final decision, the article said.

Sounds like creating or keeping teachers jobs are more important to the school district than school safety. So teachers are trained to enforce laws and protect children. If I use the boards logic than police officers should both teach and enforce laws that way we could save money from the reduction of teacher salaries. And what about "assignment "teacher liability, police officers have limited liability do/would assignment teachers playing the police have the same protections? Do we really want teachers playing police? What can an assignment teacher do if or when a kid brings a gun to school? Or if an armed felon is on your school campus? Think about it, is it worth the $65,000.00 savings? I would suggest that the board consider cutting waste in other programs.

Trouble may happen anytime and anywhere. And having a child myself keeps me to worry about their safety when they walk across the road or even when they go to school all by themselves. That's why I always imposed safety and security within my family. I have registered all the member's of my family on a safety mobile device that is easy to access in times of trouble. It is a Panic Button installed on a Smartphone's and it allows us to alert all the member of our family when danger comes. It can also identify the exact location and have the ability to search the address of any family that you wanted to locate. You can browse their other features with this link: http://safetrec.com/
