A Chicago man was charged with driving 71 mph in a 35 mph zone in Niles. The driver told police he just had his car washed and wanted to dry it.

An Oak Park woman was charged June 29 with driving off with a boot attached to her 1996 Chrysler Concorde.

A pair of senior citizens from Chicago allegedly stole a brass valve, compost seeds, a magazine and a flame protector from a Home Depot in Evanston.

A car parked at Niles West High School in Skokie was burglarized June 30. The stolen items included eight to nine moving citations from various police departments.

A semi parked in Skokie was reported stolen on July 4. The owner was unable to determine how it was removed. Last year, at least three semis were reported stolen in the same area.

A power washer and two empty beer kegs were stolen in Northbrook on June 26.

An envelope containing $2,500 was taken from a Wilmette home between June 7 and June 11. The money belonged to the homeowner's son, who left the money in the ceiling tiles.

The parents had hired a contractor to repair damaged pipes and tiles in the room. The contractor said he noticed the envelope but could not say if it contained any money. He said the envelope was thrown out among the trash.
