OMG PD: Odd Crimes in Our Patch Region

This week: Someone gets mad at a port-a-potty, a spa customer gets crude and other oddities.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

An officer observed a port-a-potty lying on its side by Northbrook’s Shabonee School July 13. The officer found an impact mark and depression in the plastic wall at a height consistent with that of a vehicle’s bumper. Inside, the toilet paper roll had been set on fire and there were scorch marks on the other wall. The toilet seat had also been broken off.

The owner told the customer the salon did not perform that type of procedure and was alarmed by the request. The subject left after being asked not to return.

The phrase “F*** da” was observed spray-painted in black on the upper portion of the Northbrook Police Department’s sign at the station on Lander Road.

A man purchased $4,200 worth of cigarettes on July 14 in a warehouse store in Niles for resale at his store. He placed them in his vehicle and walked to the cart corral to return his cart. A woman struck up a conversation with him, which he later realized was likely an attempt to delay him from getting back to his vehicle. He drove back to his business before he realized the cigarettes were missing.

After receiving a call about a suspicious person in the bushes at Northbrook Court on July 10, police took a 19-year-old from Glenview into custody and issued him a local ordinance ticket for consumption of alcohol by a minor. According to police, he smelled strongly of alcohol, and had what appeared to be vomit on his clothes.

A Skokie couple reported having their living room set stolen, including a leather sofa, love seat, coffee table, end tables and lamps. Several other high-priced items, including a laptop and high-definition TV, were left untouched.

A Chicago woman was walking in the street in Des Plaines after leaving the Rivers Casino. Police offered to give her a ride home or call her a cab. She replied: "I don't need an (expletive) ride!" Police asked for her name and identification, which she refused to give and she began walking away again. Police stopped the woman, who turned around and said: "Get your (expletive) hands off of me or I'll (expletive) you up!" She was then taken into custody and kicked an officer twice in the knee.
