Publisher's Clearing House Scam Hits Glenview

A Glenview resident lost $1,000.00 after getting a call about winning prize money.

The following reports were provided by the Glenview Police Department.

Theft by Deception

On March 21, a Glenview resident reported they received a call from “Publisher’s Clearing House” notifying them they had won a prize, according to police. To secure the prize, the resident was told they needed to purchase two Green Dot gift cards in the amount of $500.00 each and provide the pin numbers to the male caller, according to the report.

The cards were bought and the pin numbers were provided, then the resident was told six more cards needed to be purchased, according to police. The resident the became suspicious and learned the call was a scam, police say. Amount lost was $1,000.00.

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

On March 19, someone reported their car had been burglarized while parked at a business on the 1100 block of Waukegan Road., according to police. Entry was made by breaking a side window, police say. Rhinestone jewelry and knitting supplies, worth about $600.00 combined, were taken, according to the police report.

Someone else reported their car was also burglarized while parked on the 1100 block of Waukegan Road, according to police. Entry was made by breaking a side window, and a black leather purse and cell phone were taken, police say. Reported loss is $370.00.

Attempt Burglary to Motor Vehicle

On March 20, a resident on the 900 block of Queens Lane reported their car alarm went off on the night of March 20, according to police. When the resident looked outside, a male was seen leaving the area where their car was parked, police say.

Stolen Scrap

On March 22, someone reported three pallets of computer scrap was stolen from a business on the 3300 block of West Lake Avenue, according to police. Reported loss is $3,000.00.
