Rash of Car Burglaries Hit Glenview

In all but one instance, a thief or thieves entered unlocked vehicles.

A string of local car burglaries have taken place within the past week to 10 days, according to documents provided by the Glenview Police Department.

The incidents appear to have begun on approximately Dec. 4, and have taken place as recently as two days ago. In all but one instance, the vehicles that were targeted had been left unlocked. 

A similar cluster of were also reported by the Northbrook Police Department during the same time period.

Below are the dates and descriptions of when the thefts took place, and the estimated losses in each case:

  • 12/4: Someone stole a wallet from an unlocked car in the 1700 block of Portage Run containing $600 and several credit cards. Also taken was a camcorder. The total estimated loss was $980.
  • 12/5: A resident in the 1900 block of North Dr. reportedly found a blue duffel bag, tire gauge and several other items in their front yard. According to police, the items were likely taken from vehicles during the string of car burglaries that took place in the same area.
  • 12/5: A thief of thieves entered an unlocked vehicle in the while it was parked in their driveway, in the 1900 block of North Dr. A pair of snow shoes valued at $82 were taken.
  • 12/5: A resident in the 1700 block of Ridgewood Ln. told police someone entered their unlocked car and stole a television valued at approximately $500.
  • 12/5: Another resident in the 1800 block of Ridgeway Ln. reported that someone stole a blue duffel bag and a rain slicker from an unlocked car parked in their driveway. According to police, a pair of sunglasses believed to be taken from a different burglary were also found at the scene. The loss estimate was $90.
  • 12/5: Someone stole a GPS system from the 3800 block of Linneman St., again, from a vehicle that was left unlocked. The report states that the loss was valued at $25.
  • 12/5: Several pairs of sunglasses were stolen from an unlocked car in the 1200 block of Sheffield Ln. They were reportedly worth about $45 in total.
  • 12/5: A pair of headphones and a wallet were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 1600 block of Executive Ln. The loss was reported at $65.
  • 12/12: A resident in the 4100 block of Cove Ln. said someone broke the window on their vehicle to gain access, and stole a radar detector, GPS unit and electronic accessories. The total loss estimate was $595.
