New Details Emerge in NIU Hazing Death

With the hopes of preventing future alcohol-related deaths among college kids, the family of David Bogenberger updated a wrongful death lawsuit Wednesday to provide more details into how the 19-year-old Palatine man died, according to the DeKalb Daily Chronicle.

Family attorney Peter Coladarci told the Daily Chronicle the Bogenberger family hopes that the additional information will encourage parents to have an open discussion with their children about misusing alcohol and the dangers of excessive drinking.

Bogenberger died of alcohol poisoning last November after binge drinking at a fraternity pledge party at Northern Illinois University.

The updated lawsuit alleges Bogenberger drank several glasses of vodka in rapid succession and that after he and other pledges passed out, fraternity and sorority members did not call for medical help, according to WGN-TV.

Buckets were instead placed near the pledges, according to WGN-TV.
