Ruse Burglars Hit Northwest Glenview Homes

Two burglaries and a suspicious person trespassing were reported between Thursday and Saturday in Glenview.

In the first instance, a resident of the 3900 block of Brett Lane reported that someone they didn't know rang their doorbell several times around 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, according to police. Since they weren't expecting anyone, the resident didn't answer the door, and went upstairs to the second floor to use the bathroom. While in the bathroom, the resident heard the doorbell ring a couple more times, and then heard a cracking noise and footsteps walking up the stairs.

The resident thought it was a family member, and called out to the intruder, then heard footsteps running down the stairs. When the resident went back to the first floor, the patio door was open, but nothing appeared to be taken, according to police.

That same day, a resident of the 3900 block of Crestwood Drive reported that a man came to the door talking about a water leak, and walked into the house uninvited. He walked both of the residents into the backyard, and pointed to another house, saying the leak was coming from that direction.

One of the residents asked the man to leave, but he did not, and kept talking, according to police. When the other resident walked into the home, the man left in a hurry, police said.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, a resident of the 3700 block of Gregory Drive reported that a man came to the backdoor and said he needed to show them a water issue in the backyard. While the resident spoke to the man outside, a second person entered the home and searched a bedroom dresser, according to police. Nothing is believed to be stolen.

The resident described the suspect as a white man of medium build, standing about 5'7", with black hair and work clothes.
