Seven-Year Sentence for Glenview Man Convicted of Drug-Induced Homicide

Prosecutors say Cary Cohen is responsible for giving a 21-year-old woman 'bad heroin,' after which she went into a coma and died in 2009.

Glenview man Cary Cohen, 25, was sentenced to seven years in prison Tuesday at the Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie, Triblocal reported yesterday.

Cohen’s sentence is three years in the making. According to prosecutors, in Dec. 2009, Cohen purchased ‘bad heroin’ in the city, and then brought it back to Glenview and gave it to friend, then 21-year-old Laura Grace Riley. Soon after, Riley went into a coma and died six days later on Dec. 18. Cohen pleaded guilty to drug-induced homicide, according to Triblocal.

Cohen has been in jail since his 2009 arrest, Triblocal reported, and prosecutors said he will have to serve at least 75 percent of his sentence.
