Teens Approached with ‘Gun’ at Avoca West Playground

The following information was shared through District 34 and the Glenview Police Department and asked that it be shared with the parent community:

Just before 9 p.m. Wednesday night, two teenagers were approached on the playground at by subjects wearing ski masks, according to a community wide e-mail alert sent by District 34 and the Glenview Police Department this afternoon.

The suspects, both about 5’4”, 125 pounds and wearing dark clothing, approached the teens to a distance of approximately 30 feet away, the alert explained.

One of the subjects removed what appeared to be a black handgun from their sweater pocket but left the playground area, 235 Beech Dr., when the juveniles threatened to call the police.

According to information released by the Glenview Police Department, nothing was said by either of the subjects and it is not known if the object they had was a gun, a bb gun, an air soft pistol, or another type of handgun replica. Nothing was found at the scene to indicate any type of projectile was discharged, the alert said.

Anyone with possible information regarding this incident is asked to call the Glenview Police Department. Police would also like to remind school staff, parents, and students to remain vigilant when monitoring their surrounds and to remain cognizant of dusk closing times of schools and parks.
