UPDATE: Judge Won't Settle Case of Glenview Dispatcher Caught Naked on Camera

Court denies Delatorre's request for settlement conference, sets final status date.

A judge was today to resolve seven misdemeanor claims against Glenview police, fire and public safety dispatcher . Delatorre is accused of running naked through his Chicago apartment building last year. 

Delatorre was while at work at the Glenview Police Station Feb. 1. He was booked on five immediately after appearing in court to answer the first two. If , his next arrest on the same offense would be a felony, according to Chicago Police Detective Karen La Palermo. 

Cook County Circuit Court Judge Anthony Calabrese denied a motion by Delatorre attorney Joe Roddy asking the court to convene a settlement conference under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 402. Instead, Calabrese urged the state’s attorney to try and reach an agreement with Delatorre.

“I have never seen myself as an activist judge -- I prefer to be an independent arbiter,” Calabrese said when rendering his decision. “I would be overstepping to involve myself unless both sides agreed. I will not insert myself and impose a settlement.” 

The case is set for a final status hearing at 1:30 p.m. May 24 in Branch 29 of criminal court, 2542 West Belmont Avenue, Chicago. Roddy expects the case to either be resolved or set for trial that day.

Three of the complaining witnesses against Delatorre were in court today and the judge has ordered that all witnesses be present May 24 so any trial date set will be a date certain. Calabrese expressed in court that he does not want unnecessary delays.
