UPDATE: Local Woman Indicted for Kidnapping, Carjacking

If convicted, Crystal Perez of Glenview could face up to 30 years in prison.

The and another injured was indicted for both offenses Friday in the Skokie branch of Cook County Circuit Court. 

Crystal Perez, 19, was originally arrested April 13 for the March 30 kidnapping and carjacking  of a 22-year-old Glenview man at knifepoint according to The incident left the second offender, Christopher J. Walsh, 20, dead after a brief police chase and subsequent crash.

Perez and Walsh allegedly abducted the victim in a residential area near Glenview and Shermer Roads. They released the victim in Evanston before the crash, according to Ader.

Perez is charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping and one claim of aggravated vehicular hijacking. Both crimes are Class X felonies which carry a prison sentence between six and 30 years, according to Cook County State’s Attorney spokesman Andy Conklin. 

Perez, who remains in Cook County Jail unable to post the $30,000 cash portion of a $300,000 bond, appeared in court wearing a sling. Her shoulder was injured in the crash, according to her attorney John Romano. “It’s at least a sprain,” he said.

Romano indicated the case was at its initial stages. He had no other comment. 

Perez is scheduled for arraignment at 9:30 a.m. May 16 in the Skokie branch of Cook County Circuit Court. At that time she is likely to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty according to Conklin.
