Glenview to Get Nearly $150,000 Reimbursement for Blizzard Snow Removal

The village will be reimbursed by FEMA for about 75 percent of the cost of clearing snow during February's historic blizzard.

The Village of Glenview will receive $149,407 for expenses incurred after the February blizzard that dumped 17 inches of snow on the area.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will give about 75 percent of $199,209 of eligible expenses in six to eight weeks for-clean up after the Feb. 1-2 storm, according to a press release on the village website

“We are pleased that we will be reimbursed for the maximum amount allowed,” Village Manager Todd Hileman said in the village's statement. “Glenview crews were plowing continuously throughout and after the storm to clear streets. The clean-up was a significant expense.”

The village applied for the maximum amount of funds allowed after . The village was also declared a disaster area.

FEMA deemed the overtime, materials, equipment and some contract costs necessary for Glenview to provide emergency protective services over the 48-hour period eligible for the reimbursement, the statement continued.

To be eligible, local communities in Cook County needed to have incurred costs of $3.27 per person, or more than $17 million collectively for snow removal efforts, village officials said.

Cook County communities incurred just under $22 million in reimbursable expenses, according to an Illinois Emergency Management Agency made in April.
