Major Storm Water Projects, Roadway Improvements Planned in 2014

The village's 2014 budget includes storm water projects expected to benefit as many as 1,395 parcels in Glenview.

Glenview's proposed 2014 budget includes $12 million in storm water projects and $5 million for resurfacing several roadways, according to a press release from village spokesperson Lynne Stiefel.

The board of trustees will consider adopting the 2014 budget and 2013 property tax levy at a public meeting on Dec. 10. Property taxes are expected to increase by 1.44 percent, according to Stiefel, but that figure is meant to capture the percentage of new property reported on the tax rolls. She said current taxpayers should see no increases in their bill.

Planned storm water projects will benefit as many as 1,395 parcels in Glenview, and will be funded in part by federal and state grants, according to Stiefel. Those projects include increased water detention at the Glenview Park Golf Course property, improvements east of Harms Road near the North Branch of the Chicago River and installation of a bypass sewer west of Shermer Road from Sunset Memorial Lawns Cemetery to West Lake Avenue.

Major roadway projects include the beginning of the design process for intersection improvements at East Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road and improvements to the intersection of West Lake Avenue and Greenwood Road. Crews will add a traffic signal, stripe the pavement to delineate turn lanes and construct a 10-foot wide multi-use path from the Glen to Glenbrook South.

Other major capital projects in 2014 include consolidation of village hall and police services at the police department, 2500 East Lake Ave., and completion of a new Fire Station 6 at 1215 Waukegan Rd., Stiefel said.
