Reader's Choice Winner: Friends of the Glenview Library Used Book Store

The charitable organization won 73 percent of reader votes in this week's reader's choice contest.

There are plenty of Glenview spots to get cozy with a good read or pick up a pile of bestsellers. This week, Glenview Patch readers weighed in on the best local bookstore as part of our most recent Reader’s Choice poll.

, 1930 Glenview Rd., won the top spot, nabbing 73 percent of reader votes. In second place, 2651 Navy Blvd., earned 26 percent.

Friends of the Glenview Library, established in 1939, supports library programs and special projects through its successful Used Book Store. Patrons can browse and purchase donated reads and various media for a steal (typically $2 or less). Perhaps best of all, dedicated volunteers shuttle books from the library to the train station as a service to Glenview commuters. Rare books are sold on the UBS Storefront at Amazon.com and can be picked up at the library.

"[We have] great donated books in every category at inexpensive prices, no-hassle browsing, volunteers who love to be there and enjoy talking or not talking (customer preference) to the customers," said Rene Kreer, longtime volunteer.

"The 'take a paperback book' at the train stations started long before our time and we continue it in the present," she added. "I have been told that some passengers have been seen getting off the train, picking up a book and riding on to their destinations, so we serve more than just the Glenview community!"

We'll be running reader's choice polls every Monday through Friday so that you can help advise your neighbors on the best places to check out in town — and hopefully learn something new yourself!

It's also an opportunity for people to leave reviews in our extensive business directory. And no need to wait for a poll to sound off. Got a rant or rave? If you've got something to say about a local business, please look it up in the directory and let fellow readers know what you think.
