District 34 Official Leaving at End of School Year

Dr. Phil Collins has accepted a job as Superintendent of Morton Grove Elementary District 70, it was announced this week.

At the most recent Glenview School District 34 regular board meeting, officials announced that Dr. Phil Collins, who is currently the assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment, will be leaving.

Effective July 1, 2012, Collins will become the superintendent of Morton Grove Elementary School District 70, which is a K-8 district. This will be Collins' 10th year with D34, before he leaves for his new position.

He does so with mixed feelings.

"I know this is gonna be a very difficult district to leave," Collins said.

It was a move Brett Clark, executive director of communications and strategic planning for D34, saw coming.

"Whenever you have someone as talented as Phil, you have the understanding that someday he will probably be a superintendent (somewhere)," Clark said.

There is currently no word on whether or not his position at D34 will be filled or retained in the future.

"It's a collaborative process," Clark said. "That decision always goes back to the board. I'm not sure if it will be filled yet or not."
