Optimizing Your Vision

The new Chicago Lighthouse Vision Rehabilitation Center will host a special “Optimizing Your Vision” program Thursday, April 12th and Sunday, April 15th at 222 Waukegan Road in Glenview.

The free two-day event will showcase the facility’s cutting edge comprehensive low vision services, including adaptive technology, occupational therapy, children and youth programs, services for seniors, clinical low vision services and psychological counseling.

Additionally, our new Tools for Living™ retail store will offer a wide array of independent living items, including talking watches and desktop/portable CCTVs, designed to assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Of particular interest is the all-inclusive, voice-activated CDesk computer system that has high contrast and large print, is speech and zoom enabled and can be controlled with the keyboard, mouse and even with the user’s voice. CDesk provides easy access to a number of much used computer functions such as word processing, emails, internet browsing and more.

Among highlights will be a radio show with a live studio audience focusing on vision challenges for seniors and new ways to live independently; presentations with Q & A from experts in vision care and adaptive technology; tours and hands-on demonstrations of the latest cutting edge low vision devices.

Free parking will be available. Additionally, our facility at 222 Waukegan Road, Glenview, is accessible by Pace Bus Routes # 208 and #210. There is also frequent Metra train service via the Milwaukee North line from Union Station in downtown Chicago to the Golf, Illinois station, which is close to our site. The Lighthouse will provide free shuttle service between the Golf station and 222 Waukegan Road.
