Glenbrook South Hosts 'One Day One Goal'

GBS students lead activities to promote a day of international world peace.

The following items were provided by District 225.

On Friday, Sept. 21, as part of the Peace One Day campaign, Glenbrook South students hosted a One Day One Goal event.

Peace One Day is a non-profit organization started by one man, who works to get one day of global truce. This day, since 1999, is on September 21. He works with leaders of nations to get cease-fires and peace for one day, allowing aid workers to get into war-torn areas and provide antibiotics and other needed medical treatment. One aspect of this day is One Day One Goal, which uses the game of soccer to unite the world.

GBS students sold t-shirts and wristbands to raise money and help bring awareness to Peace One Day and the organization’s efforts to reduce global violence. During all lunch periods, students also hosted different games involving soccer balls such as bowling for peace, juggling for peace and Bozo buckets of peace.

After school, there was also a 5v5 soccer tournament, with games lasting 10 minutes.
