Glenbrook South Teams Up with Relay for Life

More than 200 GBS students are expected to participate in the American Cancer Society's annual fundraiser scheduled for June 15-16 in Glenview. Due to construction at GBS' football field, this year's event will be held ay Gallery Park.

Students at are gearing up for this year’s Relay for Life events meant to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society. More than 200 GBS students are expected to participate.

“This year is a big year for Cure Club. I want to see a change in how people see the event and the cause,” said Glenbrook South junior Brittany Balzano, the Club's president. “One in four men and one in six women will be diagnosed just this year. Sure, we can't cure cancer right away but this is the first step to a cure.”

Relay for Life involves teams of dedicated relay supporters who camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path.

Because cancer never sleeps, rrelays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length. Relayers do not have to walk all night, but each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times.

Because of ongoing construction at Glenbrook South’s football field, GBS students will participate off site in the 2012 Relay for Life North Shore from 6 p.m. Friday, June 15 to 6 a.m. Saturday, June 16 .
