Glenview's Character Counts Essay Contest 2013

The following information was provided by Character Counts. 

The 16th annual Character Counts! in Glenview writing contest invites students in fifth through eighth grades to describe a scenario where a lack of character resulted in a hurtful or negative situation. 

Writers must then use one of the pillars of character to improve the outcome and explain how the situa­tion changed as a result. The pillars are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

The essays can be up to 350 words. Entries over 350 words will not be judged.

Entry must include name, address, phone number, grade and school in the upper right hand corner of each page, and can be given to students' Language Arts or classroom teacher by Feb. 22. Entries can also be delivered to Barbara Littlefield, Glenview Public Library, 1930 Glenview Road, Glenview IL 60025.

Entries will be accepted through February 22 and judged by a panel of professional writers. All entrants will receive a ribbon, and prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners in each grade category. 

Winners will also be recognized at the April 16 Village Board meeting. Awards are provided by the Northview Bank & Trust, Glenview Optimists, Image Specialties and American Chartered Bank.
