Have There Been More Impoverished Students at North Shore Schools?

The amount of money Illinois poverty grants provide West Northfield District 31 schools — which include Glenview-based Winkelman School and Northbrook-based Field Middle School — jumped tenfold since 2006 — from $13,755 to $157,448 in 2013, with the number of low-income students in the di strict also increasing, from 93 in 2006 to 309 in 2011, the Chicago Tribune reports.

"We have wealthy community members, but we have the other extreme as well," Cathy Lauria, director of business services at the West Northfield District 31, told the Chicago Tribune.
