Need a New Mattress? Buy One at Snoozefest, Support the Marching Titans

Snoozefest takes place Saturday, Nov. 2, and supports the Glenbrook South Band.

Snoozefest 2013 Mattress Fundraiser

On Saturday, November 2, Glenbrook South Band will host Snoozefest 2013, a fundraiser letting local residents test out more than 20 brand name mattresses.

The event will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Band Room at Glenbrook South, 4000 W. Lake Ave in Glenview. Mattresses will be priced 30 to 60 percent less than retail and proceeds will go to the support of the Marching Titans. Mattresses will include Consumer Digest “Best Buy” products, Pillow Top, Firm, X-Firm, among others.

Retired Glenbrook South Instructional Supervisor, Dr. John McConnell, was recognized October 18th at the Annual Meeting of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He was awarded their Distinguished Life Achievement in Mathematics Award.

McConnell served with distinction as the Mathematics Instructional Supervisor at GBS from 1972 until 1999. The award honors his role in integrating technology into the math curriculum at GBS, leading the school to become a leader in the mathematics professional community.

Students selected for 2013 IMEA District Festivals

Seven students from Glenbrook South and eight students from Glenbrook North have been selected to compete at the 2013 Illinois Music Education Association (IMEA) District Festivals.

To earn their spot, the students competed against other musicians in Northern Illinois and were ranked highly in categories including: required selections, sight reading, improvisation, and stylistic, accurate and quality intonation.

The following symphonic students were selected for the Concert Festival on November 9 at Crystal Lake Central High School:

Theo Mavarkos – Clarinet; Marrisa Takaki – Bassoon; Grace Tu - Flute

GBN

Alex Mawrence – Tuba; Ki-Deok Park – Clarinet; Rachel Levin – Clarinet; Matt Stanielum – Trombone

The following students were selected for the Jazz Festival on November 16 at Lakes Community High School:

GBS

Matt Baeckelandt - Tenor Sax; James Friedman - Bass ; Patrick Raynard – Bass; Gary Zucker - Drums

GBN

Jake Gordon – Alto Sax; Daniel Nibeck – Trumpet; Pete Hinsa – Trombone; Danny Shapiro - Piano
