School District Honors Special Olympics Director

Pa'al Joshi receives accolades from school board, parents for starting a Special Olympics program at Glenbrook schools.

At Monday night's school board meeting, District 225 recognized Glenbrook Special Olympics director Pa'al Joshi for leading the formation of a Special Olympics program in the Glenbrook schools.

Karen Geddeis, communications director for the district, introduced each of the players and thanked them for paving the way for future Special Olympic athletes.

"I can't thank the board enough for helping us be here," Joshi said.

Moving forward, Joshi hopes to attract more than 40 athletes to participate in year-round volleyball, basketball and other sports. With help from the board and the Glenbrook Foundation, he was able to purchase uniforms for the Glenbrook United players and says the team is focused on developing skills, making friends and learning something new— It's not about winning, he added.

On Thursday, the team will enjoy a pizza party following their volleyball game at Glenbrook South. After the volleyball season, Joshi said participants will begin playing basketball and in the spring, players will have the opportunity to register for soccer and track. Joshi also hopes to add bowling and softball in the summer.

"It's really been an amazing adventure," said Joshi.
