Titans' 2010-2011 Top 10 Moments

Softball came close to a sectional championship while a pair of gymnasts earned all-state status.

They played smart, they played tough and they definitely played hard. Here, catch Patch's picks for the top 10 most memorable Titan moments from the 2010-2011 school year.

10. Football upsets No. 6 Barrington in First Round: and hung on to upset Barrington. John Strickland had 141 rushing yards on 26 carries and Kyle Kwasniewski had 181 on 17 carries to lead the Titans’ offensive attack.

9. Strickland Breaks Own School Record in Long Jump: may not have the ideal ending to his senior season – failing to qualify for the state finals in the long jump – but he walks away with Glenbrook South’s school record. Strickland outdid his previous personal best with a jump of 22-9 ½ at the CSL South meet and won the conference championship.

8. Girls Lacrosse Cruises to Sectional Title with Win over Lake Forest: The Titans still have some work to do in order to be considered an elite program in the state of Illinois, but was a step in the right direction. A balanced scoring attack helped Glenbrook South to a 17-6 victory over Lake Forest.

7. Baseball Wins Regular Season Matchup with Glenbrook North: Pinch-hitter Andy Dunk drove in two runs with a single in the fifth inning and the Titans . Glenbrook South would be knocked out of the playoffs early, but they proved to be one of the top teams in the state by handing Glenbrook North one of its four losses on the season.

6. Chapman Sets Kills Record In Final Game: Not all was lost in the Titans’ playoff exit against Lake Forest in the regional semifinals. Senior Ellen Chapman set the school record for career kills in the 25-17, 27-25 defeat to the No. 6 seed in the sectional.

5. Girls Basketball Beats Host Loyola for Regional Title: While all the talk was about Loyola guard Katie Faught, it was Glenbrook South’s Kelly Minx who put on a show. The 6-foot Titan forward scored 22 points to rally , setting up a showdown with Niles West in the sectional semifinals.

4. Sellitto Beats Hoogland For Sectional Tennis Title: Freshman Sam Hoogland won’t have to look far for additional inspiration next season. The first-year tennis star fell to teammate Michael Sellitto in the sectional final, but both qualified for state. The two singles players joined the doubles team of Konrad and Michael Levin in the state tournament.

Klosowiak, Hamilton Earn All-State Honors in Gymnastics: Senior Adam Klosowiak fought back an illness just before the state meet to place third on parallel bars and tie for fifth in the floor exercise. Junior Kevin Hamilton tied for fourth in pommel horse to join Klosowiak with all-state honors.

2. Softball Ends Historic Season in Sectional Championship: Glenbrook South’s 2011 team became only the second squad in school history to . They couldn’t get past New Trier – who beat them twice in the regular season – but Glenbrook South’s 10 seniors certainly left their impression on the school’s softball program.

1. Boys Volleyball Upends Maine South in Regional Final: After losing to Maine South in last year’s regular season, Glenbrook South exacted a little revenge in the regional final. Senior middle hitter Lucas Rytel had 15 kills in the Titans’ 25-21, 22-25, 25-17 victory.
