Glenbrook South Titans Sports Scoreboard

Volleyball won a regional championship while senior Danielle DeVito advanced to the cross country state championships.

Football: started off the playoffs with over CSL South rival New Trier on Friday. The offensive line opened big holes for the Titans trio of Kevin Schroeder, Alex Leet and Billy Pappas in the backfield and QB Mac Zabriskie made a handful of big plays in the passing game.

Glenbrook South advances to the second round and will play Lyons in LaGrange.

Boys Cross Country: Glenbrook South (396 team points) finished 16th at the Class 3A Skokie Sectional on Saturday.

In his last race as a Titan, senior Sam Stanek led Glenbrook South, finishing in 37th place with a time of 15 minutes 57 seconds on the three-mile course. Sophomore David O’Gara was close behind Stanek, coming in 48th (16:04). Brad Berg (94th, 16:39.45), Casey Henrickson (108th, 16:47.66) and Alan Jackman (126th, 17:01.53) also figured in the scoring for Glenbrook South.

Girls Cross Country: Glenbrook South finished in 12th place with 316 team points at the Skokie Sectional, but senior Danielle DeVito earned a trip to the state championships by finishing in 14th place individually. DeVito will compete in the state finals for the first time after completing the course in 18:15.

Mollie McMahon (60th, 19:52.60), Mary Andersen (61st, 19:52.67), Jamie Vear (89th, 20:27.69) and Jamie Studenroth (102nd, 20:57.25) also scored for Glenbrook South.

Girls Volleyball: The Titans won the Class 4A Park Ridge Regional with a 24-26, 26-24, 25-18 victory over Maine South. Becca Tiedmann led GBS with nine kills while Olivia Nelson chipped in with eight.  

Glenbrook South hosts Evanston in the sectional semifinals on Nov. 1. The winner will face either New Trier or Loyola Academy in Thursday night’s sectional final.

Basketball: Hoops season has officially started for high school girls teams. The IHSA allowed practices to be conducted starting on Oct. 31, but the first games cannot be held until Nov. 14. For the boys, everything is pushed back a week later. Practices can start on Nov. 7 with schools ready to start games on Nov. 21.
