Glenview's Brian Hansen Qualifies for Olympics

The speed skater had the third fastest time in the 500 meter qualifying race.

Glenview native Brian Hansen has earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, coming in third in the speed skating trials this weekend in Utah, according to the Bleacher Report, which was live blogging the race.

Hansen qualified in the 500-meter sprint, according to the Bleacher Report. He did not qualify in the 1,000 meter, having been knocked out by Shani Davis by a hundredth of a second, according to ABC News.

On his website, Hansen talks about starting to train in the sport when he was 10 years old at the Northbrook Speed Skating Club. As he advanced in the sport, his parents would drive him from school to Milwaukee to train. He won a silver medal as part of the U.S. team in the 2010 Olympics.
