Titans' Sports Roundup: March 31

A school record is broken and the badminton team continues to dominate.

Boys Track and Field: In most cases breaking a school record is a big deal. The exception: when the same athlete has already topped the mark twice in the same season.

Senior John Strickland set another school record with a mark of 22-3 ¾ in the long jump at the Illinois Prep Top Times Invitational track meet at Illinois Wesleyan on March 26.

“He just missed qualifying for the outdoor state meet last year so he has that goal in front of him to chase,” GBS coach Kurt Hasenstein said. “If he jumps what we think he can, he will challenge the 23-foot mark and a state championship.”

Sophomore Ose Ilenikhena also qualified for the Top Times meet and placed 10th in the high jump with a mark of 6-1.

“Ose has been a big surprise for us,” Hasenstein said. “His best jump as a freshman last year was only 5-6 so we when he popped a 6-4 at the CSL meet we were all in shock!”
