Titans' Sports Roundup: Pair of Gymnasts Take Home State Medals

Girls Soccer sets another school record while baseball wins the CSL South.

Baseball: Glenbrook South (22-6, 13-1 CSL) clinched the CSL South title on Saturday with a 10-0 victory over Niles North in six innings. Josiah Carlson walked one and struck out eight in the complete-game victory for the Titans.

Other than one loss to New trier, Glenbrook South has been perfect in conference. The Titans beat Niles West 9-1 and 2-1 in their two previous games.

Pitcher Luke Harrison, who is 7-0 with a 0.91 ERA, will play baseball at Indiana University next season. The three-sport star also considered playing soccer at the college level, but opted to pursue baseball at Indiana.

Boys Gymnastics: A pair of Glenbrook South gymnasts earned all-state honors at the state championships last week. Senior Adam Klosowiak finished third on parallel bars (9.3) and also tied for fifth on floor exercise (9.5). Junior Kevin Hamilton tied for fourth on pommel horse (9.15).

Both also competed in the all-around competition on Friday night with Klosowiak (52.00) finishing 10th and Hamilton (49.25) tied for 21st.

In the team competition, Glenbrook South was eighth with 145.70 points.

Boys Volleyball: Glenbrook South took fourth place in the Vernon Hills Tournament last weekend, falling to Highland Park in the third-place game 25-19, 25-20. The Titans went 2-1 in pool play, beating Young and Illiana Christian while losing to Vernon Hills. Glenbrook South lost to Glenbard West in the semi-finals 25-23, 25-13.

Boys Tennis: The Titans finished second in the CSL South championships to New Trier last weekend. Konrad Ryba won the No. 2 singles championship while Will Lyon and Michael Baddeloo took home the No. 3 doubles championship. 

Boys Water Polo: Glenbrook South’s season ended with a 15-12 loss to eventual sectional champion Loyola in the semifinals of the IHSA Northbrook Sectional on Friday. Senior standout Igor Gryniv had eight goals for the Glenbrook South in the loss.

The Titans defeated Glenbrook North, 21-7, in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Badminton: Glenbrook South finished off its badminton season with a steady performance at the state championships. As a team, the Titans finished in 26th place after accumulating five points.

Angela Cho and Olivia Nelson went 4-2 and advanced to the consolation quarterfinals. Their final loss came to a doubles team from Bradley-Bourbonnais 21-19, 21-10.

Crystal Thomas went 3-2 in her five singles matches while Diana Diaconu was 1-3 at the state championships.  

Boys Track: John Strickland broke his school record with a jump of 22-9.5 at the CSL South championships. Strickland won the individual event and bettered his personal best by five inches.

Girls Soccer: The Titans set a new single-season record with 19 shutouts on the season. They held Whitney Young scoreless in a 3-0 victory on Friday. It was the team’s 12th consecutive shutout. April Cronin, Lindsey Oldshue and Nina Kodros scored for Glenbrook South.

Girls Lacrosse: Nicole Lander had 3 goals and an assist and Jackie Liebrandt scored 3 goals in Glenbrook South’s 13-6 win over Lake Forest on May 12.
