Titans Still Learning After Thursday's Win

Glenbrook South's varsity football players demonstrated a stunning, 48-0 win on Thursday at Deerfield, but Titan head coach Mike Noll says the team still needs to prepare for challenging games ahead.


"The schedule is going to get challenging soon, we just have to take it day by day and focus on getting better," Knoll said. "I think we try to keep it simple, focusing on getting better every day."

Three games into the Titans' season, the team is undefeated with consecutive high scoring games. But Knoll said Maine South and New Trier will still be tough competitors.

Deerfield has more learning to do after Thursday's game, their second loss in a row.

"We faced a very good team and on defense, we didn't execute our schemes well enough, we didn't tackle well enough," Deerfield High School Coach Steve Winiecki said. "We did not play our game, we did not play the game Deerfield should play, and when you do that against a team like this, that's the result."

Winiecki said he plans to look at every player's attitude in the tape from Thursday's game to evaluate the team's strength — especially their commitment after a very difficult first half where GBS was already up 41 to 0. 

"I told the kids at halftime, the big one is the second half, we're going to take a look at everybody in the second half on film, and that's how we're going to start making evaluations for the rest of the year," Winiecki said. "We'll find out what kids quit, what kids are going to come back, even just looking at the kids who are injured on the sideline, who was engaged."

"We're one and two right now, and today wasn't very pleasant, but we got a lot of football to play," he added. "We're going to want to make sure who wants to keep playing football with us."

According to Glenview's coach, the Titans came prepared to put up a challenge.

"The defensive players wanted a shutout that was important to them," Noll said."I thought our back-ups played very well, they didn't do so well in the first two games."
