A Glenview Welcome

Glenview residents recently welcomed Reverend Sue Sommer as the new rector of St. David’s Episcopal Church, the church’s first new rector in nearly 20 years and its first female rector.

“Sue is a teacher, a shepherd and a leader,” said Tom Wattley, Senior Warden, in announcing the appointment.  “She is a generous listener and a great practitioner of the trust and faithful engagement needed to build effective ministry.  Her commitment to service and outreach will build on a strong tradition at St. David’s, and be a great addition to the Glenview community.”

Reverend Sue, as she likes to be known, graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary and served parishes in LaGrange and New Lenox.  She returns to Chicago from service as Canon Pastor and Subdean at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kansas City, MO.

St. David’s has been active in Glenview since its founding in 1946 and is recognized for its education and fellowship programs and its local and international service work.  The church emphasizes youth and family ministry through the St. David’s Nursery School and youth programming for elementary through high school students.

“I’m excited to be here,” said Reverend Sue.  “Both the village and St. David’s have a rich heritage and a bright future.  My family and I are looking forward to getting to know our new hometown, and I am eager to explore avenues by which St. David’s can continue to serve our community.”
