Thermostat Wars: One Blogger’s (Hilarious) Quest for Comfort

We've all gone through it.

An office that’s so cold you keep three sweatshirts in your bottom desk drawer, or a spouse who insists on kicking the heat to 80 degrees before hitting the sack.

Living in a state of eternal discomfort can be pretty darn irritating.

In her latest post, Patch blogger Lori Duff laments the thermostat wars in her own life and wonders why she doesn’t have more say in the matter – especially at work, where she is a managing partner of a law firm.

“My personal opinion is that those who are cold natured can always put on another sweater or a scarf, but there is only so much I can take off and still look professional, she writes. “Or decent. I have taken to wearing tank tops under my jackets, but I really think the world is a better place if I keep my armpits and flabbety upper arms hidden from view.”

She also remembers a time when air-conditioning was a luxury item and recognizes her vague annoyance doesn’t quite match a straw hut in the tropics or a moose-hide tent above the Arctic Circle.

“Then I think what a first-world, middle class baby I’ve become.”
