Glenview Titans Raise $1,400 For Cancer Research

The Glenview Titan Aquatic Club raised money for the Ted Mullins Fund, which supports sarcoma research at the University of Chicago.

Glenview Titans swam the hearts out in continuous relays for an hour this Saturday, raising $1,400 for cancer research.

Money from the "Hour of Power" goes to the Ted Mullin Fund, named for a Winnetka swimmer who died of sarcoma at age 22. The fund helps support University of Chicago research into sarcoma, a rare cancer of the connective tissue.

Ted Mullin Fund volunteer Peggy Nichols shared Mullin's story with the Glenview Titan Athletic Club last Saturday before swimmers of all ages and levels divided into relay teams for an hour of continuous swimming.

The first "Hour of Power" was held by Carleton College swimmers in November 2006, to honor their teammate, according to the Ted Mullin Fund website. By 2011, there were more than 160 teams participating in the event, which is the major fundraiser for the Ted Mullin Fund.
