VIDEO: Titans, Spartans Work Together for a Tasty Cause

Athletes from Glenbrook North and South are in the midst of a Burger Battle (all for a great cause!) at Meatheads Burgers and Fries.

Titans vs. Spartans—a battle of the burgers is under way at in Northbrook!

The local rivals have teamed up to create two signature burgers—the Titan Thunder and the Spartan Burger—at the popular hangout. Aside from claiming burger bragging rights for the winning team, Meatheads’s Burger Battle benefits the Northfield Township Food Pantry and helps to raise awareness of hunger in the area, said Meatheads’ Matthew Murray.

“Every month more than 1,000 of our neighbors and friends turn to the Northfield Township Food Pantry for perishable and non-perishable groceries,” said Pantry Coordinator, Mary Lou Kratochwill.  “Hunger is not acceptable in our community so we are encouraged by these young people as they step up to the plate to help make a difference.”

Both burger will be available on the restaurant’s regular menu until June 15. Patrons can determine the winning burger by voting on Meathead’s Facebook page or by purchasing the burgers at the restaurant. Meatheads has pledged to donate $250 to the food pantry on behalf of the winning team, as well as 10 percent of the proceeds from each specialty burger purchased.

“Our Burger Battle shows how people can work together to help others, no matter who they are or where they come from,” said Chris Szafranski, co-captain of Glenbrook South’s varsity baseball team.

“Burger Battle is a fun way to help our schools and community address a very serious problem," added Brett Synek, co-captain of the Glenbrook North varsity baseball squad.

It’s pretty hard to resist a great burger (or a little Titan/Spartan rivalry) so Patch sports writers Ross Jacobson and Dan Santaromita dropped into Meatheads this week for their very own taste test. Both burgers are chock-full of school spirit, but to see makes which one makes the grade, tune in to the video above.
