Glenview May Move Village Hall to Police Station

Members of the board of trustees are considering several options for village hall, including a $7.1 million addition to the police station recommended by village staff.

Faced with an estimated $1.7 million in necessary repairs or replacements to Glenview's village hall, members of the board of trustees are expected to discuss several different options for renovating or relocating the property at a board meeting Tuesday.

Options range from constructing an all new village hall on the current site at 1225 Waukegan Rd. to building a 17,000 square-foot addition on the police station at 2500 E. Lake Ave. and relocating government activities. Projected costs range from $12.5 million for the first option to $7.1 million for the last option, assuming the village could sell the old property for $1.5 million.

City staff are recommending building an addition onto the police station and taking over part of the police station for village staff because it is the least expensive option and because it will reduce travel time between the police and public works departments and other municipal departments.

Other topics up for discussion on Tuesday night's agenda include the estimated cost of building a new Fire Station 6 at 1215 Waukegan Road, which has ballooned from $5.4 million in April 2013 to $6.5 million in October. At a meeting Oct. 1, members of the village board directed the construction manager to present information on the budget and how they could reduce costs closer to the original estimate.
