Evanston Takes Sectional Track Crown

Glenbrook South, New Trier, Deerfield, Highland Park, Niles West, Maine West, Maine South, Notre Dame, Niles North and Loyola athletes will join Wildkits at State Meet.

Taking home the team trophy for the sixth straight year, the Evanston High School boys track team won the Niles West Sectional Thursday in Skokie sending five individuals and three relay teams to the State Meet May 24 and 25 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston The Wildkits compiled 85 points. Glenbrook South took home second place with 72 followed by Prospect in third with 70 and New Trier fourth with 58. Niles West accumulated 47 for fifth with  Deerfield sixth, Main South seventh, Niles North eighth, Highland Park ninth place, Notre Dame of Niles tenth, Maine West 11th , Loyola Academy 12th, Maine East 13th\, Glenbrook North 14th and Von Steuben 15th. Glenbrook Students Receiving $800K Worth of Laptops

Freshmen and sophomores at the Glenbrook high schools will receive ChromeBook laptops for the next academic year.

Northbrook and Glenview schools are in the process of implementing the "one-to-one initiative" designed to provide students with a laptop or other device for enhanced learning, the Chicago Tribune reports. Among the students getting new devices are freshmen and sophomores at Glenbrook North and South, who will receive $828,000 worth of ChromeBook laptops in the upcoming school year, according to the Chicago Tribune. Abt unveiled the Samsung 85” Ultra HD TV on Wednesday night, the largest Smart television in the world. So far, only 250 units exist worldwide. The $40,000 television is voice and hand-gesture controlled, features built-in sound bars delivering 120 watts of sound in 2.2 channels and powered by 1.4GHz quad-core processor, IGN reported. Glenbrook South Baseball Loses in Evanston Comeback

The CSL South title holder gave up four runs in a 7-6 loss to Evanston High School.

Evanston came back with four runs in the fifth sixth innings to beat the CSL South champion Glenbrook South 7-6 on Wednesday, the Evanston Review.  GBS beat Evanston last week in a conferance game to earn the CSL South title. “I told (the team) after the game that any time you come back against a really good team, especially coming back late, it’s something,” Evanston coach Frank Consiglio told the Evanston Review. Glenview Residents Help Clean Up Chicago River

Dozens of Glenview residents joined volunteers on May 11 to remove trash and invasive plants during the Chicago River clean up day.

  More than 80 Glenview residents helped clean up the Chicago River as part of Chicago River clean up day, where 4,000 volunteers removed trash and invasive plants at 70 river locations from the north to the south suburbs, Glenview Announcement reported.  The Glenview team worked on the West Branch of the North Fork in the Techny Basin, which serves as a naturalized storm water detention in Glenview, according to Henrietta Saunders, chairwoman of the Glenview Natural Resources Commission, Glenview Announcement reported.  Nearby are recreation trails that are part of the Bike Glenview program launched in April, which encourages biking around the village.  The initiative is a cooperative effort between the Village of Glenview, the Village’s …

Battery, Hazing Charges Filed Against Maine West Soccer Coach

Michael Divincenzo faces eight misdemeanor charges related to reports of physical assaults at Maine West High School in Des Plaines in 2012, according to Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

A former varsity boys soccer coach and teacher at Maine West High School faces multiple criminal charges related to reports of bullying and hazing, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez stated on Wednesday. Michael Divincenzo was charged with eight misdemeanor counts including three counts of battery, one count of hazing and four counts of failure to report abuse as mandated, in incidents on June 1, 2012, Aug. 31, 2012 and Sept. 26, 2012, according to court documents. Divincenzo is accused of threatening freshmen students to have the varsity players stick their thumbs up their buttocks if they did not communicate properly during a soccer drill, according to the charges. $100K Worth of Jewelry Stolen in Burglary

Also featured in this week's blotter: A Des Plaines man was arrested in relation to a burglary that occurred in December.

The following reports were provided by the Glenview Police Department. Arrests and charges are accusations and do not indicate guilt. Burglary Arrest On May 10, Bastri Feka, 23, of Des Plaines, was arrested on the 5600 block of Old Orchard Road and charged with residential burglary, according to police. The charge is related to an incident that occurred on Dec. 23, 2012 on the 300 block of Elm Street, police say. Retail Theft On May 11, Linda Lamet, 44, of Northbrook, was arrested on the 1900 block of Tower Drive and charged with retail theft, according to police.   Residential Burglary On May 6, a resident on the 4400 block of Ivy Drive reported someone burglarized their home, according to police.
