Endorsements Grow for Dold Challengers

Wheeling Democrats also back Schakowsky in 9th, Morrison for State Senate.

Ilya Sheyman and John Tree shared the endorsement of the Wheeling Township Democrats Wednesday in the March 20 primary to become the Democratic challenger to Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) in the Nov. 6 general election. Sheyman, a community organizer from Waukegan and Long Grove business owner Tree got the nod over Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider, Mundelein attorney Vivek Bavda and Hainesville mathematician Aloys Rutagwbira. Though a shared endorsement is unusual, Wheeling Democrats President Rob Nesvacil expressed confidence in both candidates. “Both Tree and Sheyman have demonstrated a tireless will to fight for the middle class and a stronger American future,” he said. There was no shared endorsement for the 9th …

Dold Challengers Offer Ideas on Mortgage Crisis

Some Democrats would require mandatory mediation between lenders and borrowers on underwater loans.

After Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) met with local real estate industry leaders Tuesday to discuss the nation’s housing and mortgage crisis, four of five Democrats hoping to challenge Dold had ideas of their own to share. Though Dold sees possible legislation as a solution to the difficulties being caused to people because home values are dipping below the mortgage balance on their property, he thinks relaxation of certain regulations now will give some quicker relief. Dold also recognizes the current reduction of real estate values is one of the major problems for the economy as a whole. “There is no question as we look at the economy and jobs, housing is a big, important aspect to our economy.” “We can do that but I’m not sure how …

"unemployment insurance (already paid for by business, not a hand out)" RB, I would invite to to visit the following link. Put in the taxes you pay and then drop down to "Job and Family Security" under that category you will find "Unemployment Insurance" where you will see how much you paid into the fund. There are valid reasons to not consider unemployment insurance a "hand out," but it is not …   more ›

Dold Democratic Challengers Make Case

Five diverse candidates explain why they have the best chance to win a seat in Congress.

All five Democrats vying in the March 20 primary to challenge Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) see themselves as best able to unseat the freshman incumbent in the Nov. 6 general election. The contest promises to be one of the country’s most hotly contested races.  Before Dold was sworn into office a year ago, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee targeted him for defeat on the heels of his 5,000 vote victory over Dan Seals even though the area’s new boundaries were not drawn. A few months later, Emily’s List, an organization dedicated to electing progressive women to office, declared its intention to defeat Dold as well. In May, the Illinois General Assembly passed a new Congressional map placing Dold’s Kenilworth home in the 9th …

Relentless. I would add Social Security and Medicare to your 0% and I also would not call them charity. Let's see. Oh, I would add FEMA or similar programs....unless General Electric is coming in to clean up after Hurricanes. I would add programs that clean up contamination. Food assistance, unemployment compensation? Yep! If you think your 0% would put food on the table if by some chance you …   more ›
