The 10 topics that most interested readers during the past year were stories about child endangerment, a train derailment, local deaths and more.

Now that the year is nearing its end, it offers an opportunity to look back on which stories most interested Glenview Patch readers. What story did you follow most closely? 1. Northbrook, Glenview Residents Discuss Grief and Suicide at Community Meeting

According to Northbrook Village President, "Northbrook can and will recover" from the recent tragedies.

There were no outbursts, no shocking revelations about the recent tragedies in Glenview and Northbrook. On Wednesday night, hundreds of people filled Glenbrook North's Sheely Center to quietly reflect on the past and hear expert advice on grief management, the statistical realities of suicides in Illinois and how to communicate with loved ones during periods of emotional hardship. They gathered in the wake of a string of recent tragedies, including two suicides of young men in Northbrook, the death in a car accident of a Glenbrook North student, the train derailment and bridge collapse that killed a Glenview couple, the drowing death of a 4-year-old Glenview boy, and the sudden death from an illness of a GBN special education teacher. Northbrook and Glenview Offer Tools for Coping with Recent Community Tragedies

The neighboring villages will host a community forum with advice from trauma professionals.

In the aftermath of last week's train derailment and the string of young people who passed away last month, Glenbrook North will hold a presentation and discussion to help community members deal with grief. The event, called Tools for Coping, is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in GBN's Sheely Center. It will feature expert presentations, and cover topics such as: Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to break-out in smaller discussion groups or meet with counseling professionals. Hurt.   It is a theme that has paraded itself around our town recently, as family and friends grieved the loss of loved ones. And all people could ask is, “why?” Of course, there is not one simple answer or reason. Why should our brother, sister, neighbor, friend, grandchild, be snatched away without warning? Northbrook Grappling with 2 Recent Suicides of Young Men

Two young men and their families were remembered last night during a public gathering at the Village Presbyterian Church.

On the heels of Billy Garrity's death earlier this month, Northbrook is greiving over the death of another young person, Ryan McCarthy, a Glenbrook North alumni, who committed suicide at his home on Wednesday. He was 20.  The Village Presbyterian Church has scheduled a public gathering tonight at 7:30 p.m. for people to pay respects to both men and their families.  "Anyone who would like to come is more than welcome to come and talk and pray and be together," said Mike Nevling, senior pastor at Village Presbyterian. "We need to be there and affirm love for one another, affirm community for one another, affirm life for one another." Tributes Continue to Pour in for William "Billy" Garrity

People from near and far express their sorrow over the death of the Glenbrook North High School senior.

As friends and family mourned him at a funeral mass today, others are reaching out online to express their sadness and their share memories about William "Billy" Garrity, the Glenbrook North High School senior who died last week. The funeral mass was said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Norbert Church, 1809 Walters Ave., Northbrook. On Legacy.com, an online guest book that provides a way for people to express their thoughts, friends, family members, teachers and strangers from as far away as Denver, CO and St. Louis, MO. are sharing words of solace to the Garrity family.
