Glenview to Get Nearly $150,000 Reimbursement for Blizzard Snow Removal

The village will be reimbursed by FEMA for about 75 percent of the cost of clearing snow during February's historic blizzard.

The Village of Glenview will receive $149,407 for expenses incurred after the February blizzard that dumped 17 inches of snow on the area. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will give about 75 percent of $199,209 of eligible expenses in six to eight weeks for-clean up after the Feb. 1-2 storm, according to a press release on the village website.  “We are pleased that we will be reimbursed for the maximum amount allowed,” Village Manager Todd Hileman said in the village's statement. “Glenview crews were plowing continuously throughout and after the storm to clear streets. The clean-up was a significant expense.” The village applied for the maximum amount of funds allowed after spending roughly $400,000 to remove 882 semiloads of…

Trustees Make Quick Work of Village Agenda

Officials approve minor changes to stormwater drainage ordinances and application of state prevailing wage laws to local construction projects.

Village of Glenview trustees met for just under 30 minutes Tuesday, June 21 ahead of a tornado warning for the area. Before getting the warning at about 8 p.m., officials unanimously approved the application of state prevailing wage laws on local construction projects -- but not without some discussion. According to a resolution, the law requires public entities establish prevailing wages for certain laborers, workers, and mechanics. The act requires that contractors and subcontractors pay workers covered under the law to be paid hourly cash wages plus fringe benefits set by the state department of labor.  Administrative Services Director Amy Ahner said the village complies with the law every year and it "continues to have a negative …

Village Brings On Administrative Law Judge

Consuelo Bedoya-Witt was officially appointed Tuesday, June 7.

An administrative law judge has been selected to decide penalties for local ordinance violations -- a move that will allow offenders to have hearings in Glenview rather than the Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie. Consuelo Bedoya-Witt, a local attorney with a Glenview-based firm, touts a 33-year career that includes 12 years in private practice specializing in immigration and civil litigation. She was also the first female Hispanic judge in Illinois and served on the Cook County Circuit Court for 21 years. Bedoya-Witt has been appointed to the position by Village Manager Todd Hileman -- unanimously recommended by staff out of six applicants total, Hileman told Village of Glenview trustees Tuesday, June 7.  According to a resolution…

Commissioners Have Concerns About Proposed Housing Development

Plan commissioners had questions about preliminary plans to build a housing development on 27 acres of vacant land currently owned by the federal government.

A Schamburg corporation wants to develop 155 new housing units in Glenview, on 27 acres of vacant land that's currently owned by the U.S. Navy. Representatives of Pulte Home Corp. addressed the Village of Glenview Plan Commission  Tuesday, April 26 in what may be the first of several meetings about the application. Commission Chairman Steven Bucklin noted Tuesday's meeting was "a workshop-type meeting only" with commissioners having no intention of voting on the project, named Regency at the Glen. Instead, commissioners voiced potential concerns about the development after hearing an introduction of the project from Jeff Brady, Director of Planning. The development, which would be located at 2101 Saipan Drive, would include 41 dupex units …

Mr. Clean Car Wash Not Heading to Glenview Anytime Soon

After months of controversy, Mr. Clean Car Wash officials withdrew their plan commission application to build a location at 2100 Waukegan Rd.

With very little fanfare, the battle for the construction of a Mr. Clean Car Wash at 2100 Waukegan Road is over. The village plan commission accepted a letter from the petitioner withdrawing the application at its regular meeting Tuesday, April 12, ending a series of debates that began in October. "It was withdrawn for whatever reason," said plan commission Chairman Steven Bucklin. "I personally don't know the reasons why." Bucklin added that it's possible the applicant, Mr. Clean Car Wash CEO Bruce Arnett, noted the various issues that came up or perhaps the officials found another place to build. Commissioners had concerns about potential traffic pile-ups on Waukegan Road, noise and likely water runoff's harmful effects to Valley Lo Lake…

New Firefighters Sworn In, Veterans Promoted at Trustee Meeting

Six firefighter/paramedics of the Glenview Fire Department participated in a swearing-in ceremony at a meeting Thursday, April 7.

The addition of new firefighter/paramedics to the Glenview Fire Department is good news for the village -- new hires had been tempered by the economy, officials said.  "It's actually a lot of [new hires] for one time," said Fire Chief Wayne Globerger. "We didn't fill a lot of positions for a while because of the economy and now we're starting to fill a few." Some retirements of senior officers made room for new hires, the chief said. Two officers moved up to lieutenant, one was promoted to captain and three new firefighter/paramedics were hired at the swearing-in ceremony Thursday, April 7 at a regular Village of Glenview Board of Trustees meeting. The honorees are Fire Captain Larry Wysocki, Fire Lieutenant Mike Carnes, Fire Lieutenant …
