Receivership Firm Investigates Glen Town Center's Underperformance

RE Solutions, the court-appointed receiver, is studying how to boost sales at the Glenview shopping center.

A Chicago-based receivership company has been tasked with improving business at Glen Town Center, Chicago Tribune reported.  Glen Town Center Developer OliverMcMillan is in court facing a $56 million foreclosure lawsuit that claims it has not made a loan payment on its 267,000-square-foot Glenview mixed-use retail project since July 2009.  Earlier this month, Cook County Circuit court appointed RE Solutions as the receiver and the company is looking at why the shopping center is still underperforming even though 94 percent of the retail space is leased, Chicago Tribune reported.  The highly anticipated 267,000-square-foot mixed-use retail center opened in 2003 and was supported by the Village with a $12 million revenue-sharing agreement …

Abt Ventures into Bedding Business, New Department Features $29K Mattress

The famed Glenview retailer continually freshens up its offerings even while sales and customer loyalty boom. A new 7,000-square-foot second-floor showroom is the newest addition to Abt's already 10,000 square-foot retail space.

The first item a visitor spots in Abt’s new upstairs bedding department is a standard $299 mattress. But a far more impressive sight is stashed in back of the 7,000-square-foot showroom overlooking the huge Glenview home furnishing retailer’s atrium. North Branch Pizza & Burger Co. Offers Classic Favorites with a Twist

Glen Town Center Developer Faces $55.6 Million Foreclosure Suit

San Diego-based OliverMcMillan LLC has not made a loan payment on its 267,000-square-foot Glenview mixed-use retail project since July 2009, according to a complaint filed in Cook County Circuit Court last week.

Glen Town Center Developer OliverMcMillan is more than a little behind on loan payments, according to Crain’s Chicago business. The San Diego-based real estate development company has not made a payment since July 1, 2009 and is facing a $55.6 million foreclosure suit, according to a complaint filed in Cook County Circuit Court last week. Consumer Reports: Abt Rated Best Place to Buy Appliances Nationwide

The magazine surveyed more than 18,000 respondents across the country who said the Glenview retailer was their top choice over national chains including Home Depot, Lowe's, Best Buy and Sears.

Glenview electronics giant Abt has been named No. 1 for major appliance purchases by Consumer Reports magazine for the third consecutive year. Despite having only a single brick-and-mortar location (plus an online store on Amazon.com), Abt earned high marks for price, selection and overall experience,  according to the magazine. The national survey, which polled 18,000 people, showed deals matters most, followed by quality and solid customer service. One survey respondent Marc Hamilton said he was first introduced to Abt through the company’s webstore and was impressed with the retailer’s offerings. Medical Society Moving HQ to Glenview, Purchases 5.25 Acres

After a 20-year occupancy in Northbrook, The American College of Chest Physicians will relocate to a two-story, 45,000-square-foot innovation center in the Catellus-owned Prairie Glen Corporate Campus.

Glenview will soon add another headquarters to an already impressive list of not-for-profit organizations and businesses including Anixter, Scott Foresman and LifeSource that call the Village home.  The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) expects to break ground this fall on 5.25 acres of land recently purchased in the Prairie Glen Corporate Campus, according to a recent Village press release. The medical society plans to house its innovation and learning center in a newly built, two-story, 45,000-sqaure-foot facility, 2501 Patriot Blvd. The project is slated for October 2013 completion when the organization's 90 employees will move from the current headquarters at 3300 Dundee Road in Northbrook. Abt Adding Mattresses, Security Services to Offerings

The Glenview-based electronics giant will add a second-floor expansion to its current 100,000-square-foot retail showroom.

Already one of the region’s largest independent electronics and appliance retailers, Glenview-based Abt will soon be getting even bigger. According to a Crain’s Chicago Business blogger, the company will begin working with major home security brands like GE and Honeywell offering security services to customers throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. Glenview New Home to Pharmaceutical Company HQ

Astellas Pharma’s headquarters for the Americas recently relocated from Deerfield. The expansion will mean investing approximately $140 million in Illinois and adding around 150 high-tech jobs.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn and Congressman Bob Dold were on hand with Astella’s Pharma US President and CEO Yoshihiko Hatanaka Monday morning to welcome the pharmaceutical giant’s new headquarters to Glenview. The company’s headquarters for the Americas were in Deerfield but recently relocated to two six-story buildings at a new Glenview campus straddling the Northbrook border at Willow Road and I-294, according to the Associated Press. Company officials of Tokyo-based Astellas say they have added 200 employees in Illinois since 2011. Grandpa’s Place Heading for Expansion

The old-time Glenview favorite plans to expand its indoor seating and add a new lower bar.

Classic Glenview sports bar and grill Grandpa’s Place got the green light Tuesday night for expansion plans that will include additional second floor seating, a lower bar, an elevator and a rooftop deck, Glenview Announcements reports. Glenview’s Plan Commission unanimously approved expansion of the 1868 Prairie St. property, and final approval could be granted as early as next week’s May 22 Village Board meeting, the article said. Owners hope to complete the work by winter 2013, but the project’s start date relies on when permits are granted, the article explained. Kraft Closing Glenview Center, Sticking with Headquarters in Northfield

The grocery and snack giant is currently undergoing a major restructuring including a Glenview closure, more jobs in Northfield and a new snack division based in Deerfield.

Earlier this year, Northfield-based Kraft announced it was axing 1,600 jobs throughout North America and intends to shut down its Glenview management center by the end of 2013. While that’s not good news for Glenview, officials in Northfield say they expect the Northfield campus to grow, according to Glenview Announcements. Additionally, as part of Kraft’s restructuring, a Deerfield facility will serve Mondelez International Inc., a new snack products arm (including favorites like Oreo). The company’s North American grocery business will keep the Kraft name and its headquarters on a 73-acre property at Willow and Waukegan roads, bordered by Northbrook to the west and Glenview to the southwest.
