As you rush out madly for last minute supplies for Christmas dinner, area grocery stores will be there with their doors open for you — at least early in the day on Christmas Eve. They’ll be closing their doors early that day, so you’ll probably want to head out early for your supplies. And don’t even think about waiting to buy your Christmas coffee cake until Christmas Day, because you’ll be hard-pressed to find a nearby grocery store open. Here is a round-up of grocery store hours in Glenview and Northbrook on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. When I was a kid, Christmas Eve was the longest day of the year. My brother and I couldn't wait until 5 p.m. when the relatives came over so we could exchange gifts and spend time playing with our cousins. I'm sure this was the longest day ever for my parents too, only for different reasons. We drove them crazy! "Are they here yet?" "Can't I have another cookie?" "I'm bored!" Well, what goes around comes around and my kids are just as anxious on Christmas Eve. To be a little smarter this year, I wanted to come up with a few ideas to not only keep the kids amused but also to take a break from all of the preparations and spend some precious time together having fun and making memories. Judge set bond at $8 million for 24-year-old Wilmette resident Anthony Rapoport, for allegedly beating his aunt to death with an aluminum bat.
Hershel Rapoport had been upstairs with his wife on Christmas Day when he heard a loud argument in the kitchen. As the disagreement escalated, Rapoport came downstairs in time to see his grandson, Anthony Rapoport, bludgeon Anthony's aunt Nancee Rapoport with an aluminum baseball bat, according to police reports and testimony held in court Monday. Nancee died Sunday from the head injuries she sustained, Assistant State's Attorney Supervisor Robert Heilingoetter told the court. Anthony appeared in Skokie at the Second Municipal District Circuit Court of Cook County Monday for a bond hearing on a charge of first degree murder. Bail was set at $8 million in cash.
