Good Food, Great Beer, Classic Rock Are Name of the Game at Yard House

General Manager Frank Gondermann blends a fun atmosphere with lots of taps, classic tunes and tasty treats.

Frank Gondermann knows beer. As a German-born general manager of a restaurant with the world’s largest selection of tap beer, he ought to. Six years ago, Gondermann came over to Yard House after spending the previous 17 years managing other bars and nightclubs. Yard House  opened its doors in June 2004 and serves  an anchor restaurant at the Glen Town Center. It’s the only Illinois location for the chain, with the majority of establishments in California, Arizona and Nevada. It boasts the most beer choices across the globe-- At least according to the t-shirts sold near the hostess station:  “Great food. Classic rock. Glenview Starting to Experience Economic Recovery

New jobs and less retail vacancies on the horizon, officials say.

As Glenview’s economy moves into 2011, signs of life are returning to its commercial and employment base. Village officials are stepping up efforts to fill vacant retail space in downtown Glenview while the Glen is nearing pre-recession occupancy levels and employers are starting to add jobs, said Ellen Dean, Glenview’s director of community relations and economic development. “Like much of the North Shore we have weathered the [Great Recession] better than most,” she said. Dean’s comments echo those of business leaders in the community who see things starting to improve.  With the new library as a mainstay of downtown, Glenview is looking for ways to develop the village-owned former Dominick’s site and bring more merchants to town using …

Fall Inside the Kohl Children's Museum

Decreased seasonal attendance means no lines and no waiting, but full programming for children at the Kohl Museum.

Summer vacation may be officially over, but that doesn't mean the end of local activities for Glenview children. At Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago, located in the Glen Town Center, the upcoming fall season typically means decreased attendance -- but that actually offers an advantage for visitors, said Dave Judy, the museum's communications director. "I would say the fall is the quietest time of year to come to the museum and the best time," Judy said. "Especially on a nice, warm fall afternoon--Indian summer--it's going to be wonderful."
