Discount Glenview Pool Passes On Sale

Glenview residents can save 20 percent by buying a local pool pass by May 20.

Sure it's snowing this week, but the sun will come out eventually. Prepare for the summer early with a discounted pool pass from the Glenview Park District.    Glenview residents who purchase or renew their 2013 outdoor pool membership for a family of four receive a 20 percent discount. Outdoor pool passes provide access to Flick and Roosevelt Pools from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Through May 20, residents can save on 2013 season passes and enjoy the park district’s two awarding-winning outdoor pools with an early bird resident rate of $80 for an individual pass and $50 for each additional family member. Nanny and Senior resident rates are $70 each. In addition, a five punch guest pass is available for $40 and a ten punch guest pass …

Glenview Park District Cancels Some Programs

Know of events that are canceled due to the snow? Help your neighbors out and tell us below.

Glenview Park District has canceled district programs due to the weather, according to the district website. As of Tues., Feb. 26, 1 p.m. the following programs have been cancelled: Basketball Practice   Basketball practices at Glenview Public School District 34 schools will run as scheduled for tonight.  Coaches may elect to cancel on their own. Please check coaches before heading to practice.

Glenview Recycled Christmas Trees, Pruned Some 3,570 Parkway Trees

Some of the recycled trees were chipped while others will be used for Lake Glenview.

  Between mid January and early February, contractors with the Village of Glenview pruned 3,573 trees – about 870 trees more than expected, according to the village.  Glenview residents also turned in 330 Christmas trees for recycling. Glenview Park District chipped some 260 trees that were collected at the five parks and the village collected 69 trees from condo associations and will use those trees for Lake Glenview.  In December, the village contracted with Trees R Us in a joint bid with the Village of Wilmette, to trim parkway trees in northeast Glenview this winter. The trimming is done on an eight-year cycle.

Glenview Park District Completes Flick Renovation

The 39-acre community park is located at 3600 Glenview Road and features brand new playground equipment and shade structures.

The Glenview Park District announced the completion of Flick Park's south playground in a press release. A wooden play structure from 1996 was showing signs of deterioration in the posts, according to the release. The old equipment was replaced with two composite playpieces, the release says. One has a combination of slides and climbing opportunities appropriate for children ages five to 12. The second addition has a “clubhouse” theme that incorporates natural looking climbers such as a tree trunk and tree stumps, plus a “trackride glider." A new shade shelter was also built in the central part of the playground, according to the release. Frosty the Snowman Visits Glenview

Frosty made a cameo during the Winter Carnival at the Glenview Ice Center last week. The carnival runs through Sunday, Jan. 6.

Frosty the Snowman visited the Winter Carnival at the Glenview Ice Center last week.  The annual Winter Carnival at the Glenview Ice Center features events for the whole family — daily family public skate sessions, pictures on the Zamboni, a charity hockey game, hockey and figure skating lessons, skating exhibitions, Sundaes on Sundays and Pancakes with Mickey.  The carnival also features special guest appearances from “Skates” the Chicago Wolves mascot, Ronald McDonald, Sponge Bob and Mickey Mouse. Some events are free. Glenview Ice Center Collects Record Number Toys For Charity

The Glenview Ice Center collected more than 175 toys for the Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.

The Glenview Ice Center collected the largest donation of gifts ever this month during its annual Salvation Army Angel Tree gift drive. The ice center received more than 175 donated holiday gifts for underprivileged children this holiday season. It is the largest collection in the program’s nine-year history at the ice center. The Angel Tree was located at the Glenview Ice Center lobby from December 1-21. Residents visiting the center could pick an Angel Tree Tag from the tree that detailed the gender, age, and holiday gift wish list for a child. Glenview's Golf Clubs 2012 Growth Report

As of November 30, golf rounds were up 6 percent and overall revenue was up 11 percent with cart rental revenue up 23 percent.

The Glenview Park District announced that its 18-hole Glenview Park Golf Club will complete the 2012 golf season with year-over-year growth in several areas. As of November 30, golf rounds were up 6 percent and overall revenue was up 11 percent with cart rental revenue up 23 percent. Believing that the golf industry can start gaining positive momentum, the Glenview Park District found creative ways to grow their golf operations with a variety of programming options.  Approximately 500 children participated in both the Glenview Park Golf Club and the Glenview National 9 Golf Club youth club programs — a roughly 20 percent increase over 2011 youth involvement.  National 9 is the Glenview Park District’s 9-hole course that offered a new …

Glenview Christmas Tree Recycling, Sledding, Outdoor Ice Skating

A list of the Glenview Park District's designated Christmas tree recycling areas, sledding hills and outdoor ice skating rinks.

Between January 2 - 31, 2013, you may bring your tree to one of the following locations and place it in the designated collection area: The trees will be recycled into mulch that will nourish plantings throughout the parks. Sledding: Outdoor Ice Skating: With the exception of Cole Park, all sled hills and ice skating rinks are lighted for evening activities and close nightly at 10 pm. Daily notification of whether the rinks/hills are open/closed will be posted on the park district website at glenviewparks.org as soon as they are opened for the first time this season. Santa To Visit Glenview Golf Club Cafe
