Gerald Hill interviewed for the position in West Bloomfield, Mich. on Friday and was offered the position Saturday. He will retire from District 34 on June 30.
Updated: 5:55 p.m. Gerald Hill has tentatively accepted the job of superintendent of schools in West Bloomfield, Mich. He accepted the position, pending negotiations, just hours after it was extended early Saturday. To read more about his reasons for leaving Glenview, click here. ---------------- Gerald Hill, who will retire as superintendent of District 34 on June 30, has been offered a superintendent position in West Bloomfield, Mich. If Hill accepts West Bloomfield’s $190,000 offer, it would mean a pay cut from his current base salary of $270,000 with District 34. According to the district’s annual compensation report, Hill’s current package also includes benefits, a pension contribution, a car allowance and an $11,000 bonus. Patch …

Tax cap to limit increase to 1.5 percent.
East Maine School District 63 approved a tentative 2011 tax levy of $35.4 million, which includes about $3.7 million to pay off bonds and $31.8 million to pay operating costs. The tax levy is the amount the district will ask taxpayers to provide next year. At a school board meeting Wednesday David Bein, executive director of business services, told board members the money the district is asking for in operating costs is about 3.7 percent higher than what the district collected in 2011. “This is our opportunity to officially declare, here is how much money we would like to fund our entity,” Bein said. Administration projects expenditures will outpace revenue by $2.6 million.
Another year, another deficit. This time, the magic red number is $2.6 million, thanks to across-the-board cuts from Springfield earlier this summer. The Glenview District 34 Board of Education heard the bad news Monday at its monthly meeting. "In 2010, expenditure exceeded revenues, and 2011 was the first year we had a deficit," said Mary Werling, assistant superintendent for business services. "We're projecting that to continue into 2012."
